2014 Closet Remix Challenge {Part 2}

Days 11-20 were definitely tougher than 1-10 because I feel like I am picking the same thing to wear over and over. One thing that’s for sure… I like polka dots, gingham, stripes and color! Days 21-31 will most likely be the toughest.

Reading: The Blue Bistro by Elin Hilderbrand. I don’t know if it was the foodie in me but I really enjoyed this book! The author does a really good job explaining the food in such detail that you can almost taste it. Oh yeah, it’s a love story too.

Watching: SCANDAL! Thank you to my friend Michelle who got Adam and I completely hooked. We are actually paying for episode’s on Apple TV right now (which feels like an all time low) because we can’t get enough! Oh, and can we talk about how much I want Olivia Pope’s wardrobe? She always looks fabulous!

Making:  Tonight we Adam is making meatloaf (pre-mixed from Whole Foods) and roasted potatoes and carrots. (I usually do the cooking but he has off!) It should last a few days!

Anticipating:  Adam’s birthday so i can give him his present!! He knows it’s a trip somewhere since he had to request the days off from work but has no idea where we are going yet. I CANT WAIT.

Learning:  To be patient. Remember those goals? It’s harder than I thought, but I’m learning…

Listening to:  The “new” Drake album. I might dress preppy but this girl loves R&B & Rap more than any other type of music.

Wearing:  Leggings, a loose sweater and flats. I’m almost positive I’m the only person at work today! (Closet remix Challenge post tomorrow)

Plotting:  my vacation days at work. I need lots of sunshine this summer! I think last year was the palest I’ve ever been since I was born.

Current wish list:  Oh, this whole no shopping in January has led to quite the list for “Buy in February”.

Current need: Right now? I need it to be 5 o’clock.

Current indulgence:  Popcorn! Kettlecorn to be exact. I am completely obsessed with it at the moment and eat it at least once, maybe twice a day.

Current food: Sunflower seed butter is a new favorite. Try it, it’s surprisingly likable!

Current drink: This tea my hairstylist turned me on to. It’s DELICIOUS.

Current guilty pleasure: Chocolate chips straight from the bag to my mouth.

Current nail color:  Some type of sparkly pinkish/red shellac. I will be getting them done sometime this weekend again.

2014 Closet Remix Challenge

Hi, my name is Alyssa and I’m a Shopaholic.

As I mentioned yesterday, I am doing a Closet Remix Challenge on Instagram.  The idea of the Closet Remix Challenge is to encourage you to bust out the items in your drawers with tags still on them, dust off things you have forgotten in the back of the closet, and pair unexpected pieces to create fun new outfits, giving a twist on your trusted favorites. You cannot shop for clothes, shoes or accessories for the entire month of January. If you have a date night, no shopping. Wedding? No shopping. Vacation? No shopping!

I’m sure you’re thinking, one month isn’t that hard.. But, it actually is {for me}. I don’t think I’ve realized how often I was just searching for something when bored and pressed the “buy now” button or how often I indulge in retail therapy when I’m having a bad day. But, I’ll make it through these 31 days and maybe even some of February. Below are my outfits for the first 10 days… If you want to know where anything is from just shoot me an email or leave a comment below.

2014 Goals

A little late to the game with this but better late than never. I didn’t do as well as I’d like on my goals last year and want to focus on following through this year.

1. Stick to a shopping budget. Adam and I have agreed that I spend mindlessly on whatever I want at that moment. I have too many clothes and plan on sticking to a certain budget each month this year. I’ve even sold a ton of my clothes on poshmark and my closet (and spare bedroom) are still overflowing.  If I don’t spend my entire budget it will roll into the next month. Since I am doing a no-shop January (more on that tomorrow), I will have double the money in February! Of course that doesn’t mean I HAVE to spend it all, but we will see how I do.

2. Stay Gluten & Dairy Free. I started out the month of December not eating either of these things. In January I had a dinner of lobster ravioli (dairy & gluten) and it destroyed my stomach and wasn’t worth the pain. My doctor has requested I do gluten, dairy and sugar free (yikes) for medical reasons and so far we’ve seen some good results so I’d like to keep this up.

3.  Be more patient. I’m trying to learn that even if I want something to happen RIGHT NOW, I might have to wait a while…and I need to be OK with that.

4. Explore before we have a baby {no, not pregnant}. There are SO many places I want to see and I feel like once we have a baby we might not get to travel as much. I’d like to see California, Colorado, Chicago and Charleston this year… The year of the “C” apparently.

5. Keep going to Church! Fell off the wagon for a bit…

6.  Turn my iPhone off more often. Sometimes I’m texting 7 people at a time… It’s just not necessary. So if I’m delayed getting back to you, don’t take it personally 🙂

7.  Get more sleep. I don’t know if it’s stress or anxiety but I do NOT sleep anymore. It’s a wonder how I don’t look like a zombie… Or do I?

8. Start up my own small business. I want to do something on the side in my spare time since we have no {wedding} obligations this year. Thinking personal shopper, bridal shower / baby shower planner and/or home organizer? Or maybe an Etsy DIY shop? I’m all over the map.

9. Finish decorating our bedroom and the second “bedroom”. Quotation marks because I kind of want to make the spare space into a closet / make-up room…or a craft room. There goes my a.d.d. again

10. Start saying No. Last year we didn’t stay in our own apartment during the weekend from April-August. We said yes to every event that came our way… This summer we are thinking about renting a beach house with a few other couples for the Summer and keeping our schedule plan-free to just relax.
