Anniversary Weekend

10 days ago, we celebrated our 1 year Wedding Anniversary!

We went back and forth on how to celebrate. Did we want to spend a week on the beach? Should we put our passports to good use and travel overseas? Should we drive up the California Coast? Or maybe we should go somewhere a bit closer for a long weekend? In the end, our indecisiveness made our decision for us.  We were staying home for the weekend but would plan some fun “excursions”.

We had a semi-lazy day Saturday morning so we would be wide awake for our plans that night. Adam said he had an errand to run and came home with a bouquet – my wedding bouquet, to be exact! He had a local florist recreate them and they were just as beautiful as I remember.

We signed up for a couples cooking class at ICE with the theme “He said, She said”.  We originally thought we would be making 4 courses but we were surprised when we saw our menu for the night

Um, how will we cook and eat all of that? Somehow, we did it. There were 6 couples in the class so we split into groups of 2 (4 people). Our group was in charge of making the shrimp caesar salad, the roasted butternut squash salad and the bruleed banana tartlets. We immediately started prepping our food so we could get to eating.

So professional with the tucked fingers. The quicker we got to choppin, the sooner the wine came out. No drinking until knives are away… I thought that was a good rule.

I took charge of the dessert (duh) and everyone said it was their favorite. With nutella, puffed pastry and whipped cream, how could it be bad?

Once the groups were finished cooking we placed everything on the buffet table to make our plates.

My favorite dish was the steak and peach salad. We’ve already created this at home, it was that good. I went from not eating meat for 2 years, to picking steak as my favorite meal. Adam’s favorite was the Duck Meatballs (which were last on my list). Everything was amazing and we had such a great time. Our chefs were a married couple as well, so it was fun to hear how they cook together. We can’t wait to go again!

The next morning we dove into our year old cake! We were a bit nervous since it had been an entire year since it was made, but it was just as good as we remembered!

We headed to the spa for 4 hours of relaxation. It was a dreary day outside so it was almost perfect that we planned these couples treatments.

We had grand dinner plans but with all of the food from Saturday night, the cake for breakfast Sunday Morning and the mimosas during the day, we just felt like hanging around. We picked up some fro-yo (first pumpkin taste of the season!) and watched football for the rest of the night.

It was the perfect weekend to celebrate our 1 year anniversary. Looking forward to many many more!

Do This For a Million Dollars

65 degrees at 7am!? I felt like we were seeing signs of fall — Hope I didn’t wish it upon us! I woke up “late” today because we were out celebrating Adam’s grandma’s Birthday!

photo

We had dinner at Montmartre, an adorable french bistro that gave us prime seating on the patio.

photo1

Home grown herbs surrounded the patio and everything smelled so fresh.

photo2

I opted for “Le Burger”. This was my first time eating red meat in 2 years and I think i picked a pretty tasty option to kick it off.

photo3

Burger with melted brie, peppercorn sauce and a side of pommes frites. There were also appetizers, wine & dessert which means I should have been at the gym this morning but hey – sometimes sleep is more important.

I woke up this morning with a craving for a smoothie. I’m still loving these blueberry cheesecake protein smoothies!

Tonight I have a dentist appointment, a manicure AND a massage on my to do list for after work… Guess it’s going to be another long night! Today is our Friday and we’re off to the Hampton’s tomorrow for more birthday celebrations.

***

I was recently speaking to some women at work about things we would and wouldn’t do for a million dollars. Here are some of the scenarios:

Would you eat a moldy sandwich? Yes

Would you give up television for the rest of your life? As long as I have the internet.

Would you go on a bread and water diet for 3 years? 3 years? No. 3 months…yes.

Would you never eat meat again? Absolutely. Although that burger was delicious..

Would you move to another country permanently? It must be a country whose primary language you can’t speak. No way. I can barely live 3 hours from my family in a state that speaks my language.

Would you live the rest of your life 250 pounds overweight? A 250 pound overweight millionaire? No thanks.

Would you tattoo your forehead? Never.

Would you have all of your teeth pulled? No, I have nightmares of this!!

Would you camp out in a bikini in the middle of December in NYC for 24 hours? Sure, why not!?

Which one of these things would or wouldn’t you do for 1 million dollars?

Stanton Social

Friday night Adam took me into the city to celebrate my new job & our 6 month wedding anniversary! I chose Stanton Social because it’s been on my foodie bucket list for a while now!

We made the reservation 3 weeks in advance and were a bit annoyed when they sat us in the very front of the restaurant, next to the door and squished at a table with 2 other couples. The dining lounge was clearly the place to be, but luckily the food made up for it!

Say hello to my cute little date!

002

We ordered a TON of different items but since the food is served tapas style it ended up being just enough.

3

Crab Cake “Corn Dogs” — Since I’m a Maryland girl, you know I love my crab cakes! These weren’t lump crab but they were still very tasty. I loved the corn breading and the remoulade it was served in. It had the perfect kick.

8

The Ahi Tuna tataki was our favorite dish (out of the 8!) of the night. The tuna was seared to perfection, the wonton stayed crispy despite the dollop of sauce and fresno chili topped it off with just enough spiciness.

007

Shrimp & Grits was our next choice and can you believe I’ve never tried grits!? These grits were so cheesy and they were topped with two pieces of jumbo shrimp. The creole sauce that was poured on top of the duo was slurp-worthy.

1

OK – The reason I even knew about this place was because the food network stars RAVE about the french onion soup dumplings on the show “the best thing I’ve ever ate”. They weren’t kidding when they said these are amazing! They come out super hot so you need to let them cool for a good 10 minutes but it’s well worth the wait. You get all of the taste in one cheesy bite!

4I ordered the Sriracha Pea Crusted Salmon for my “main course”. These were still technically tapas but i could only finish half since we had the 4 appetizers prior. The salmon came with an asian pesto & soba noodle-beet salad. I was expecting the soba salad to be warm but it was cold. I’m not really a cold noodle fan but it paired with the spicy salmon quite well.

5

Adam ordered the cuban spiced glazed ribs for his main course and they were fall off the bone. The ribs had a mango and chipotle glaze and Adam said they were one of the best ribs he’s ever had.

015

As you know, we aren’t ones to pass up dessert so when the waitress asked if we saved room we grabbed the menus from her hand. Technically these desserts are to share, but we couldn’t help but order our own. Everything else leading up to this had been so great, we knew we’d want to try more than one!

017

I chose the s’mores creme brulee. I wasn’t expecting it to come out in 3 mini dishes but I wasn’t complaining — I think this is the most perfect creme brulee I’ve EVER had.

016

Adam went the healthier route and chose the blueberry olive oil cake with blueberry compote and greek yogurt ice cream. The cake tasted a lot like a muffin and the ice cream was a bit melted but he still cleared the plate!

I absolutely recommend Stanton Social to anyone who loves food (but ask that they don’t seat you up front!) and can’t wait to try it’s sister restaurant, Beauty & Essex soon!

Tramonti in NYC

Last weekend my brother Keith and his girlfriend, Brittany, came up to visit!

photo (10)

We both went our separate ways while roaming the city but had plans to meet up for dinner at the restaurant, Tramonti. My brother was the one who suggested this restaurant and it was a good recommendation! Thankfully, we made reservations because the restaurant was tiny and NYC was crowded.

Don’t you just love NYC during Christmas?

After trekking through Rockefeller center where a million other people were, we sat down at our table.

009

1/2 bottle of prosecco for me. Don’t mind if I do.

015

You are also greeted with a warm bread basket and olive oil / vinegar for dipping. My favorite!

016

Adam and I split a salad that was on the specials menu which consisted of spinach, green apples, goat cheese, candied walnuts and a light dressing. I wasn’t a fan of these particular nuts (twss?)- they were too chewy. I was all over that goat cheese though!

019

For dinner, I ordered another “Special of the Day”. Butternut Squash Ravioli in a butter and sage sauce. VERY delicious!

017

Keith and Brittany split the gnocchi and a Caesar salad which they said was phenomenal.

018

It’s no shocker my husband had to order the most expensive thing on the menu – Veal chop, mashed potatoes and broccoli rabe. Since the only thing left on his plate was a bone – I think its safe to say he enjoyed it as well!

013

024

Paparazzi break while we wait for dessert!

027 028

Adam and I chose the ricotta cheesecake and vanilla ice cream. The ice cream was no joke. I think they may have put more than a pint in our bowl!? The cheesecake was amazing… Not too sweet, which was great because the Ice Cream was a nice balance.

025 026

Keith and Brittany went with tiramisu and chocolate ice cream. Clean plates all around!

We were going to head to Rolf’s  after dinner but well…we’re kinda old and were exhausted after a big meal! It’s probably best we didn’t attempt to go there because I heard there was a huge line out the door. Old people need sleep…

008

5 more days til Christmas!

Questions: Have you seen the Christmas Tree at Rockefeller Center? It’s so beautiful but extremely packed. I would suggest going the weekend after they light it – Not the weekend before Christmas (like us)
