2014 Closet Remix Challenge

Hi, my name is Alyssa and I’m a Shopaholic.

As I mentioned yesterday, I am doing a Closet Remix Challenge on Instagram.  The idea of the Closet Remix Challenge is to encourage you to bust out the items in your drawers with tags still on them, dust off things you have forgotten in the back of the closet, and pair unexpected pieces to create fun new outfits, giving a twist on your trusted favorites. You cannot shop for clothes, shoes or accessories for the entire month of January. If you have a date night, no shopping. Wedding? No shopping. Vacation? No shopping!

closet remix

I’m sure you’re thinking, one month isn’t that hard.. But, it actually is {for me}. I don’t think I’ve realized how often I was just searching for something when bored and pressed the “buy now” button or how often I indulge in retail therapy when I’m having a bad day. But, I’ll make it through these 31 days and maybe even some of February. Below are my outfits for the first 10 days… If you want to know where anything is from just shoot me an email or leave a comment below.

I do enjoy this challenge because it is in line with my goal to spend less on shopping If you want to join in on Instagram just hashtag #2014closetremixchallenge or #30dayclosetremix.

Friday Favorites

Happy Friday! Less than a week until we’re in Florida so the days seem to go by very, very slowly. On the agenda for the weekend is a vegan doughnut baking class, golf and hopefully getting a pre-tan before the real tan next week. Here are some of my favorites from around the blogosphere this week.

Favorite Sip: Blueberry Mojito

Favorite Mini Style: How cute are these kids? I hope my kids will let me dress them up like this one day!

Favorite Living Room Decor: I would be scared to have a white couch…but I absolutely LOVE them with navy.

Favorite Fantasy: Dream Closet

Favorite Meal: Breakfast for Dinner — Bacon & Eggs PIZZA!

Favorite Place: Can I be here right this second please?

Favorite Men Style: I’ll probably never be able to talk Adam into wearing colored pants

Favorite Lust: This lipstick reacts with the chemicals in your body, it turns your lips their own, personal shade of pink! Fabulous!

Favorite Wrist Candy: Black on Black

Favorite “Rest Day” Workout: Leisurely bike rides with my husband

Splurge vs. Steal

I’ve been obsessed with this Anthropologie skirt for quite some time now, but as soon as I finally got around to convincing myself that I needed it, it was sold out. Go figure! I have been on the hunt for a replica of the skirt and found one for 1/3 of the price. Go me!

Splurge vs Steal

Tunic / Dot sweater / Equipment crew neck top / Box pleat skirt / Yves Saint Laurent high heels / Zara shoes / J.Crew gold chain purse / Mint purse / Marc by Marc Jacobs / Betsey Johnson watch / Kate Spade watch / Lori’s Shoes gold bracelet / Kate Spade / Forever 21 fat belt

The Today Show

Thanks to everyone who tuned in this morning to watch the “re-purposing your bridesmaids dress” segment… For those who didn’t, I have the clip!

We had a scheduled car pick-up for 7am but Adam said they had been outside since 5 when he went to the gym… Talk about efficient!

photo (13)

I told Adam he was embarrassing me by following me out to take a picture but he insisted saying “It’s not everyday the Today Show sends a car for you”. Ok, he’s right.

photo (22)

The green room was filled with donuts, fruit, breads and coffee… I obviously chose a donut with sprinkles 🙂

photo (20)

I went into hair & make-up and my “theme” was sexy/girly. They gave me voluminous curls and bright pink lips! I wasn’t sure about the color since my lips are so full but everyone assured me it looked good.

PS: Was sitting right next to Ed Sheeran and had no clue who he was…Am I really that old!??!?

Sneak peek of the outfit!

We walked upstairs and did a quick walk through of the segment and the room was super tiny – It had 5 different set’s in one room!

We’re next!

We had so much fun and everyone’s outfit’s were perfect!

Questions: Have you ever re-purposed a bridesmaids dress?

Outfits of the Week and the Today Show

Good Morning!

Today is my Friday and I couldn’t be happier about that… I’m getting a littttttle too comfortable with these short weeks 😉 The reason I’m off tomorrow is because I will be on the Today Show! I will be included in a fashion segment on how to re-wear a bridesmaids dress (this is not my segment, but I will be “modeling” my revamped dress). So, if you’re around (or want to DVR it) I should be on somewhere from 9-930ish. If you follow me on Twitter, I will update closer to the start time.

Speaking of “fashion”, last week I ended up photographing my outfits every single day before heading out — so, I decided to do a clean-up of the phone and share them here.

WIAW – Asparagus, Zucchini & Feta Egg White Frittata

Happy Wednesday – Apparently, we are expecting a 3 day snow storm?? I guess that’s the kind of news you miss when you don’t have a Facebook (I deleted mine for Lent). I just hope it doesn’t continue into next week… We have a plane to catch to the sunshine state!

Since today is Wednesday, it means another WIAW post — Head over to Jenn’s page to see the other participating bloggers!

Breakfast: Asparagus, Zucchini & Feta Egg White Frittata with a side of cottage cheese & strawberries (recipe below)

Snack: You know I have two snacks by now.. Apple & PB2 plus a Clif Z bar –>no need to show them every week 🙂

Lunch: Strawberry Banana Smoothie (w/ Spinach) –> 1/2 banana, 1 cup frozen strawberries,1 cup almond milk, 1 scoop banana protein (I use muscle milk light)

photo (14)

Dinner: Shrimp Fried Quinoa — I kinda used this recipe as a base but didn’t really. I might make this again and post my own recipe because it was delicious!!

photo (17)

Dessert: 2 squares…yum

Accessories of the Day: J. Crew errrrrything.

photo (18) So as you know I’ve been obsessed with Holly’s Oatmeal Raisin Cookie Baked Oatmeal for the past two weeks, but since Florida is next week I decided to be “carb conscious” this week! I made this egg white frittata on Sunday night and cut it into 5 slices to eat during the week. It turned out delicious and keeps me full for 4-5 hours. The stats are pretty awesome as well – 163 calories, 3g fat, 11 carbs and 24 g of protein!

Asparagus, Zucchini & Feta Egg White Frittata

  • 1 large zucchini, thinly sliced
  • 1 lb of asparagus, ends trimmed and cut into 1.5 inch pieces
  • 1 bag of baby spinach
  • 1/2 medium onion, chopped
  • 1.5 small cartons of 100% egg whites (you can use beaters or real eggs – the calorie count will just change)
  • 5 oz of Fat Free Feta
  • Pepper to taste
  • 1 tbsp minced garlic
  • 1 tbsp of Olive Oil

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  • In an oven safe skillet, heat olive oil
  • Add asparagus, spinach, zucchini, onion, garlic & pepper to skillet. Cook on medium heat for 5-7 minutes until asparagus & zucchini is tender and spinach has wilted
  • Pour egg whites over the veggies and mix in feta. Cook an addition 5-7 minutes on medium-low heat until eggs are mostly set.
  • Bake for 10-15 minutes until frittata is firm. Broil for the last 1-2 minutes to brown top.

Every morning I just stick my slice in the microwave for about 2 minutes and it’s good to go! Healthy, filling and packed with green veggies 🙂

I want it ALL!

Sooooooooo I got my March J. Crew Style Guide in the mail yesterday.

photo (15)

I am not kidding when I say, I WANT IT ALL. Living in a studio apartment and not working means I will possibly be buying about 1% of what I want. But hey, a girl can dream.

Here are my favorites. (Click on the pictures to get links to the item)

Untitled #12

The Sera top (lavender silk sleeveless) is a must buy this season. It’s very versatile and can be worn to work + out when paired with the correct bottom. Unfortunately it’s sold out in my size right now but I’m hoping it comes back soon! The color-block sweater and long-sleeve shirt are also a trend I’m loving lately.

Untitled #13

Floral.. Can’t get enough of it. I will 100% be buying the floral shorts before we go to Florida. I am also in need of a good pair of white jeans that stop at your ankles. Any suggestions on a good pair? I plan to try these on this weekend and have had good luck with j. crew skinnies in the past. I’m also loving the white shorts. It’s hard to see how cute they are here since I had to add the hot pink background but a dressy pair of white shorts is a necessity!

Untitled #14

Can we start with the back-up battery for your iPhone? J.Crew, you’re my hero. I’m also still loving huge necklaces and sunglasses that are way too expensive for me to lose after owning them for 1 month.

I plan to take a peak into J. Crew this weekend (dangerous!) so I’ll let you know what if I get anything.

What to wear to a bridal shower

I know it’s still January but my calendar is filling up quick with bridal showers, bachelorette parties, weddings and more! I’ve gotten the question “What should I wear to a bridal shower”? a few times so I thought I’d write a post on it. While there’s not a specific dress code for the event there are a couple of “known” general rules.

1. Do not wear jeans. Bridal showers are girly! When you aren’t sure what to wear – Wear something on the dressier side. It’s always better to be overdressed than under dressed.

2. Don’t wear white! That is the brides color for the day…even if she doesn’t wear white, you shouldn’t be in it. A white dress top or white pants is OK but an all white dress is a definite no-no.

3. While we’re talking about colors you should also save your Little Red Dress and Little Black Dress for a different occasion.  Red is a “look at me” color and black is associated with funerals. Keep it fun!

4. Accessorize. Your going to be in a room full of women… even though you aren’t the center of attention you should still look put together.

5. Style your hair! Try a low up-do, a side fishtail braid or a twist back. Pictures will be taken – feel pretty!

Here are some of my top picks!

Bridal Shower

Happy Friday everyone! Enjoy your weekend 🙂

Christmas 2012

Skipping another Pinspiration Post for Christmas inspiration outfits (FYI – Will be skipping next week for New Years Eve inspiration outfits as well).

During Christmastime with the family we usually wear 2 outfits – One casual during the day for brunch and one dressy at night for church/dinner. I’ve already picked out our (Adam and myself) outfits for the day but wish I would have found the skirt and top in my third outfit choice because I would have bought it in a second. I’m sure I can find somewhere else to wear it…right Adam?

If you’re interested in any of the pieces just click on the picture. Happy Friday!
